OHRG at the Memorial Day Parade!

The Ohio Roller Girls were proud participants in the 2010 Worthington Memorial Day parade. Over a dozen Roller Girls, referees and volunteers marched and skated in the parade. Even the rainy morning wouldn’t keep us off of skates!

3rd Annual Combat Vets Tune-Up Motorcycle Ride

On May 1st, 2010, the Ohio Roller Girls lent a helping hand by working with the 3rd Annual Combat Vets Tune-Up Motorcycle Ride to benefit Veterans.  This Motorcycle & Auction combo is organized to raise money for Fisher House, which helps military families, and did just that!  With only 88 motorcycles entered, due to inclement weather, compared to the 289 riders in 2009 - the days festivities & fun was not dampened.  We helped raise $17,000 for this Veteran community - smashing last years $10,000 achievement.  OHRG is honored we could help make this such a great success!

OHRG Volunteers for WCBE Spring Fun Drive

It’s the last day of the WCBE 90.5FM Spring Fundrive, and we hope you have donated your time/money.  WCBE is a new OHRG sponsor for 2010 and some of us have been volunteering during the last week.  If you donated you may have been chatting up one of your favorite skaters!

Our own Ice-G, a new OHRG volunteer, gave us the skinny:

I had the opportunity to help our radio sponsor WCBE 90.5 today and last week during their Spring fund drive. As a member of OHRG’s stats team, I love being part of a group focused on the Central Ohio community. And the community loves OHRG.  Staff and other volunteers at WCBE couldn’t stop talking about derby and our first bout coming up—folks are excited. Plus, great networking to be had. Fundraising professionals gave me advice on our growth efforts, and other wannabes asked me about the next Skate Clinic. It was a blast.

There’s still time to donate, do it now!

Ghouls Take Skatemare III

Skatemare is an awesome event because we get to be really competitive against some of our biggest motivators, idols, and opponents—our own teammates. Skatemare is not a sanctioned WFTDA game, meaning that it is basically about having a great time playing roller derby with our awesome home-team crowd cheering us on. Ghostly music was juxtaposed with holiday tunes. About 250 derby fans joined us for viewing the game, many of them new to the raucous game.

Click on “Roller Derby.” 5. Hit select to start streaming the game. 6. Crack open a cold beverage of your choice, dip into a bowl of popcorn, and enjoy the game!

The production of the game is very good, minus one small technical error that lasts a minute or two in the first half. The sound is very good and we are super happy about the way it turned out. Thanks Time Warner Mid-Ohio!

We hope that Time Warner Local on Demand will be back for all of our season 5 home games, stay tuned to our web and media sites for more information as we kick off the 2010 season.
